Clowning around…

Two clowns readily come to my mind, famed Emmet Kelly [1898-1979] and old Texas friend, Mr. Frank Vlasak.

Emmet Kelly is remembered for his work with Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Frank Vlasak worked on a much smaller scale. Frank, a recovering alcoholic dressed as a clown in Lytle, Texas parades. Have you ever given much thought to clowns face-paint? They frequently look very sad and yet; through playful antics, they make people watching them laugh.

“I said to myself, ‘Go ahead, I will test you with pleasure; enjoy what is good.’ But it turned out to be futile.  I said about laughter, ‘It is madness,’ and about pleasure, ‘What does this accomplish (Ecclesiastes 2:1-2 HCSB)?” 

The cynical viewpoint is shared by many.

I choose the positive point of view.

I’m taking my medicine!

“Our mouths were filled with laughter then,
and our tongues with shouts of joy.
Then they said among the nations,
‘The Lord has done great things for them (Psalm 126:2 HCSB).”
