Weird Beard
by PamFord Davis

Dad was not what I’d call a hunting enthusiast; yet, I do remember him going squirrel and deer hunting when I was very young. Many of our Louisiana Delta friends (both male and female) are fanatics. Some even participate in ‘Big Buck’ competitions. The men grow beards in anticipation of opening day of deer season.

I recall the name of a popular Syracuse, NY disc jockey. He went by the air name of Weird Beard. Of interest, he held the 1964 world record for roller coaster rides. Suburban Park shared in his claim to fame.

Precious oil ran down the beard of Aaron, high priest in Israel.

“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
For brothers to dwell together in unity!
It is like the precious oil upon the head,
Coming down upon the beard,
Even Aaron’s beard,
Coming down upon the edge of his robes.
It is like the dew of Hermon
Coming down upon the mountains of Zion;
For there the Lord commanded the blessing—life forever (Psalm 133:1-3 NASB).”
