As the Eagle Goes, So Must I
by Tonja Taylor

The eagle is a bird of noble birth,
Sober and majestic, full of grace;
Meant to soar above the winds of earth,
And focus on the sun's eternal face.

The eagle's born into a downy nest,
But as he grows, he feels the thorny stings;
And forced to leave the safety of his rest,
He falls and learns to use his gift of wings.

The eagle doesn't struggle with his foe;
He takes the serpent in his taloned lock
And skimming clouds, he drops it far below,
Where it will meet destruction at the rock.

The eagle when he's ill complains to none
But lies upon the rock that's bathed in light,
Welcoming the healing of the sun--
Or soaring in his spirit's final flight.

The eagle doesn't struggle with the wind;
He simply bides his time and when it's right,
He lifts his wings and feels himself ascend,
And glories in the freedom of his flight.
