He was always there, rocking;

proudly from his favorite chair

he'd wave to me, forever

content just to see

his small, simple world

from the well-worn boards

he rested on. And each

time he'd smile

his toothless grin,

I'd be filled

with a strange sense of peace.

One glorious day

the chair was empty. Funny

how it looked like just

an old rickety thing

now that its king was gone;

It had seemed

such a cozy throne

when he so happily rocked there.

I knew then he had found

a better place; a silver cloud

in the sky. A smile

came, again, as I thought

of him waving,

greeting angels

as they passed by.
