Psalm 90:17
Let the favour of the Lord our God be upon us and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!

What is failure? Failure effects all of us. Some failures seem larger than life while others seem to pass in the breeze like a leaf falling from a tree in autumn. However, we all frown upon failure as if it were cancer gnawing away at the meaning of life. Yet failure is a precursor to success.

Jim Burke was head of a new products division at Johnson & Johnson. One of his first projects was to develop a children's chest rub. The product failed miserably and Jim expected he would be fired. However, when he was called before the chairman of the board, Robert Wood Johnson, he was flabbergasted when the chairman said, "Are you the one who just cost us all that money? Well, I just want to congratulate you. If you are making mistakes, that means you are taking risks, and we won't grow unless you take risks." Some years later, Burke himself became chairman of Johnson & Johnson. Author Bob Gass puts it this way, “In order to grasp the thing at which you succeed you must let go of the thing at which you failed.”

For any tracker of God’s plans, failure is not failure at all. The Scripture reminds us that God knows the plans he has for us and if we acknowledge God in all our ways then it is he who directs the outcome of our lives. Often what we evaluate as failure is nothing more than a steppingstone to the purposes of God. We need to remember it is God who produces the product of our lives. It is his blessing that brings wealth and success, not our performance. You see, as with your salvation, your good works cannot earn God’s favour. Only by grace are you saved and only by grace (God’s favour) can you succeed in the plans God knows he has for you. Grace is God’s doing. Grace is enough. Grace is your success.

SO, DON’T GIVE UP, LOOK UP & PRAY

You are my teacher and only your blessing will bring success in my life. I seek your blessing on all I do with all my heart

“O Lord, I think I have failed at so many things in life. Forgive me for any errors of judgment or sin that may have led me to make decisions contrary to your will. But, I realise now that failure in my life is only part of the process of success. I know I am saved by grace through faith. My salvation cannot be accredited to the work of my hands. Likewise, my work and performance in life cannot be accredited to my doing but to your grace. So, dear Lord, I embrace failures as part of the learning process. You are my teacher and only your blessing will bring success in my life. I seek your blessing on all I do with all my heart. Amen.”
