A Rich Chief
by Olawale Ogunsola

Irrespective of a man's status in the society, salvation, knowing and accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior is mandatory. After all, the Scriptures reveals,
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that
whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16.

Do you know that the words "whoever believes in Him" incorporates all levels of people in the world, the low and the high, the small and the great, it includes the leader and the led.

Let me state here that nothing should stand between you and salvation of your soul. Reason: there is nothing that you have that can deliver you from the wrath to come on all those who miss the salvation that is in Christ Jesus.

There are two major things that try to hinder people from obtaining their free everlasting gift of salvation that will be discussed here. These are riches and positions.

Riches. No matter how rich or wealthy you are. You need to humble yourself in front of that Personality who grants you the power to get wealth or riches or do you enronneously believe that it is your power, might or wisdom that brought it to you? No! You are wrong! There are so many people who are stronger, more hardworking and wiser than you do who are not rich or wealthy. It is by the grace of your Creator that you have all that you possessed. Therefore, do not allow what you have been given to stand between you and all important wealth to possess, salvation.

Position. What position are you now occupying? How high is it? Please, it is nothing to be compared with your salvation. I have heard about certain people who are religious clerics of high status who have heard or read the truth about Jesus Christ and the work of atonement in His blood but find it pretty difficult to forsake their religion and its activities to embrace salvation offered by the Lord Jesus Christ. They think, many times, that it is already too late for them because of their position in religious sects. Chei! Do you know that NO RELIGION can save you from the wrath that awaits those who reject salvation?

Let me inform you that there have been people who were rich and in positions of authority who have humbled themselves to accept Salvation.

An example of this man from the Holy Bible is "Zacchaus who was a chief tax collector, and he was rich". Luke 19:2. This rich chief purposed, when he heard about Jesus Christ, to see Him that he may become a new creation in Christ.

He made an unchangeable resolution to accept Jesus Christ. He never bothered to consult anybody, including his wife, children and family members. His friends and colleagues were not informed so that no one will distort his resolution to become Christ's. He decided and took all steps to receive Salvation. On the day he received Jesus Christ, he met two obstacles :
One. He was pressed by the multitude. Numerous people impaired him to have free movement to access Christ. The press was strong that he could not handle it.

Two. Do you know that his short stature worked against Him because taller people prevented him from seeing Jesus afar. You can confirm this in Luke 19:3.

As a wise and determined man, he did not allow this to impair his resolution. He devised a way of obtaining his non--negotiable salvation. What was this? The Holy Bible reads,
"So he ran ahead (of the disturbing crowd) and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him (Jesus), for He was going to pass that way" verse 4.

After all, no one was ready to compete with him in runnin among the people and no one was as tall as the sycamore tree.

Did his device work for him? Yes! When Jesus Christ got to that point where the tree wás He commanded him to come down from the tree.

He did!

He led Christ to his house. He narrated how he had carried out restitution of his past wrongdoings (verse 8).

In his house, Jesus Christ revealed,
"Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham, for the son of man has come to seek, and to save that which was lost, VS 9-10.

Beloved reader it took Zacheaus humility, climbing a tree, to see the Savior. Can you also humbly go to your Maker to receive your salvation? You may not have a tree to climb. You can kneel down where you are to confess your past wrongdoings, seek forgiveness from Jesus Christ. Ask Him to become Lord and Savior of your life. Purpose not to go back to your old evil ways. Return all you have taken from other people so that your territory will be clean.

Obtain a copy of the Holy Bible for the purpose of reading, meditating and doing it. Join an assembly of other saints of Christ to share the Scriptures together. Grow together with others in the word of grace and walk in Christ in holiness for the rest of your life. Be steadfast in your walk and prepare for imminent coming of the Lord Jesus to take His saints away to be with the Father in Heaven. Remain blessed. Shalom!
