I walked down the towpath.

Yes, living in Central New York State, the Erie Canal was close to home. I walked down the towpath when visiting my Uncle Kenneth, Aunt Lillian and cousins. Admittedly, I didn’t know all of the historical significance of the towpath or canal. I studied about it in school but it didn’t sink in.

Most people pay little attention to local landmarks. After becoming engaged, my fiancé from Louisiana enlightened me. Having lived far away he was fascinated; yet, disappointed by the neglect of the Erie Canal.

I remember walking the path.

Back then as a child, it was just a dusty dirt road.

How many walked that path before me? 

My walks were in daylight.

The towpath was dark at night.

I now walk on God’s path.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path (Psalm 119:105 NASB).”

I can trust God; you can too!

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6 NASB).”
