Flash back 56 years to January of 1966.
‘These Boots Are Made for Walkin’ reached #1 on record charts and Nancy Sinatra (daughter of Frank Sinatra) was a pop music celebrity.
I can still see Nancy dressed in Mod outfits with fashionable white Go-go boots.
The Israelites had a long way to go when they fled Egypt. Sandals were the fashion of the day and I don't believe a podiatrist would prescribe them as walking shoes.
Yet, walking they did and there were no shoe stores along the way.
Most shoes of today would fall apart and leave the travelers bare foot. Not so when God led the Israelites to the Promised Land.
His children wore shoes made for walkin.’
Moses sternly rebuked them for their lack of faith and gratitude.
They had short memories.
“Moses summoned all Israel and said to them, ‘You have seen with your own eyes everything the Lord did in Egypt to Pharaoh, to all his officials, and to his entire land. You saw with your own eyes the great trials and those great signs and wonders. Yet to this day the Lord has not given you a mind to understand, eyes to see, or ears to hear. I led you 40 years in the wilderness; your clothes and the sandals on your feet did not wear out (Deuteronomy 29:2-5 HCSB).”
How well would you survive a 40 year trek in the wilderness?
All needs are met when the Lord is your Shepherd.
“The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I lack (Psalm 23:1 HCSB).”
