He Watches Over Me
by Julie Blackman

It has been a rough two years. I am deeply saddened by the loss of my Father. The grief and sorrow of his loss have been overwhelming. But I know Christ, my risen Savior, watches over me.

One of my favorite hymns is His Eye Is on the Sparrow, written by Civilla D. Martin and composed by Charles H. Gabriel, in 1905.  I have loved this song since I was a child. As I walked around the park this week, I focused my eyes on birds flying in the air and began to think about how God provides for them every day. And how much more God loves us.

“Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” (Matthew 6:26, NKJV). We are highly valued by God; He gave His Son for us.

We cannot predict the future, only God knows what will come our way. He is omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, and Sovereign.

Give your burdens to the Lord. Jesus said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light," (Matthew 11:28-30, NKJV).

It might seem as though just putting one foot in front of the other is difficult to do at this time. The Apostle Paul reminds us in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” (NKJV).

As I pen this piece with tears streaming down my face, I want to encourage you to fly like the birds in the air, grab hold of your faith in Almighty God and soar high. The joy of the Lord is our strength.

One of the many verses that I hang onto is Deuteronomy 31:8. “And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed," (NJKV). We can trust God, and we are never alone.

My brothers and sisters in the Lord, remember He watches over you too!

God bless.
