9 Quick Strategies to Help Your English Students Gain Ground in Reading
by Tonja Taylor 19 And the king conversed with them, and among them all none was found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah; therefore they were assigned to stand before the king. 20 And in all matters of wisdom and understanding concerning which the king asked them, he found them ten times better than all the [learned] magicians and enchanters who were in his whole realm.--Daniel 1:19-20, AMPC
These strategies are interesting for you and your students, to help them gain skills and confidence in reading--which will inherently help their spelling and writing too! I have used these strategies for years, in public schools, homeschool, and in online teaching, to increase and strengthen comprehension and memory in my reading/ELA (English Language Arts) students:
Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down, but an encouraging word makes it glad.--Proverbs 12:25, AMPC Remember to encourage them by telling them often that you believe in them, love them, are praying for them (I've told many children, especially in public schools, that I pray for them. I don't remember one of them acting weird about it; they seemed glad! I've also told many I love them. I only had one sixth grade boy act weird about it, and I explained that it was the love of GOD, not what the world says it is!)--and that you know they will get this and go on to do great things! These things will help them flourish and remember God in you through the decades! Amen! Through books, presentations, service, and more, Tonja and her husband live to exalt God. Her series for girls, P.O.W.E.R. GIRL ADVENTURES, is now out (books I-V), along with LEGACY; YOUR HOLY HEALTH: VISIONS OF THE KING, and more.
