Perfect Example
by PamFord Davis

(Yawn)…

Good morning!

What?

You say you’re not a morning person?

I understand. I used to sleep till noon; now I’m up before 4am.

I like early mornings.

Many find that morning is the best time of their day.

“In the morning, Lord, You will hear my voice;

In the morning I will present my prayer to You and be on the watch (Psalm 5:3 NASB).”

JESUS set the perfect example.

“Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed (Mark 1:35 NKJV).”

This verse reminds me of missionary, speaker and author Bertha Smith.

Miss Bertha was a Southern Baptist foreign missionary to China and Taiwan for over 40 years [1917-1958].

Living to the age of 100, she then went on to glory in 1988.  I had the privilege of hearing her speak in 1976 during a mission’s emphasis at Ridgecrest, North Carolina. She shared in one of her books, that in China, she got up before daylight for prayer. In preparation, she put on layers of heavy clothing before going outside into the cold.

Mornings were her time for prayer and meditation.

LORD, you know that morning is my busiest time of the day. I want to give You first place.
