Mixed Multitudes.
by Olawale Ogunsola This two words statement has a deep and far reaching meanings to those who have examined it and useful for present and potential leaders. Mixed multitude are present almost everywhere. I came across a statement by a writer that runs thus, Yet, a leader must manage people successfully. I have always challenge many Ministers of God who crave for "numerous church members". My regular question remains, "Are you well equiped to handle many people?" Handling multitude is no small task at all. This becomes glaring in the early church when the numbers of disciples increased daily. To God be the glory who gave the Apostles the required wisdom to handle the tension generated by the inrease, (Acts 6:1-7). Note that this multitude of disciples were then members of the same family of God. They were able to abide by the decisions of the Holy Spirit by the mouth of the Apostles. Things went well. Among the bad multutude, as a Believer, you are to be different. The Holy Scriptures say, "Do not join the multitude to do evil."(Exodus 23:2. Now to the mixed multitude, this group is more difficult to handle. A leader must not lose sight of this truth. Source Let us consider in brief, how a mixed multitude joined the Jews in the land of Egypt. At their point of departure, the Lord destroyed all first borns in the land except those of the Jews. Fear fell on every people and they pitched their tent with the Isrealites to be saved. They joined them not with a total change of heart but for the temporary relief from the current destruction ravaging the land of Egypt as at that time, Exodus 12:35-38. This mixed multitude helped in fuelling the rebellion of God's people in the wilderness on their way to the land flowing with milk and honey. As it was, so it is. In the Church of Christ today, we witness the inflow of mixed multitude instead of people of God who are disciples daily being added to the Church of God. This has brought a very serious problem(s) into the assembly of God's people. It is becoming increasingly difficult to identify a true worship centre from a club house because of the music, dance, and mode of dressing of the people in attendance. Beloved reader, are you a true child of God in your assembly or a member of the mixed multitude? It will be to your advantage if you withdraw to become someone who has encountered God and has given his heart to Him indeed. That is why it is important you follow the steps highlighted at the end of this piece. Stay blessed and prrpared for the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
