If You Fear God, You Won't Fear Your Spouse
by Tonja Taylor

Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.--I Thes. 4:1, KJV

I was in a church service with my spouse, and the pastor was preaching against pornography and other adulterous acts that are against God, against marriage, etc.

Half-joking, I leaned over to my husband and said, "If you fear God, you don't have to fear your wife!"

He smiled and nodded, but his look was serious.

In my opinion and many others', all sin is the result of a lack of understanding and receiving the Love of God (which goes back to the Garden of Eden). Every human is born into sin, and, unfortunately, we have to learn about the Love of God--which is not modeled or taught nearly enough.

Much of fear is based in trying to please other people. (Ask me how I know!)

It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.--Psalm 118:8, KJV

God never told us to please other people. He desires that we live to please Him, for that is the only way we can be truly fulfilled. Just like we parents love our children no matter what, He loves us no matter what. Hallelujah! So, we please Him first just because we are His little ones; His creations!

Then, we please Him when we obey Him, just as any human child pleases their parents. Good parents, of course, want the children to obey them for the protection and blessing of the children.

How much more does our perfect Father want us to obey so He can not only protect us, but bless us to the max!

Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.--Isaiah 48:17, KJV

How good and great is our dear Father God!

A people-pleasing spirit can be hard to recognize, but it is based in fear. We have to learn that fear never comes from God, and that, if we trust the true, faithful, eternal, unchanging Love of God, we don't have to be anxious concerning our spouse.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.--I Timothy 1:7, KJV

No spouse's love is perfect, but, through the washing of the water of the Word of God, it can become much more Christ-like, and a couple can enjoy many days of "Heaven on earth," which was God's Plan to start with!

It is a process, learning to trust and rest in the LORD and to stop trying to please people, but our Daddy God is faithful to help us. Fear is bondage, and Jesus’ blood paid for us to be free. So you can proclaim today your freedom from fear, and ask the LORD to help you have victory over fear, and to walk by faith, which is trusting the LORD and His perfect Love for you! Hallelujah!!

The more we grow in our understanding of how much Father God (once you've received Jesus Christ, HIs Son, as your Savior and LORD, of course!) loves us, the more confident we are that nothing and no one else can harm us--because God, Who created and sustains all life, all the universes, all matter, etc.!--is for us! Hallelujah!

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, AbbaFather.--Romans 8:15, KJV
