A Reprobate Mind
by Olawale Ogunsola

"1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;" Romans. King James Version, KJV.

The totality of man is made of four major components. These are the Soul, the heart, the mind, and the physical body. The Lord will give us the grace to discuss extensively each of these parts of man soon.

For the sake of this piece, let us discuss in brief about the mind. It is the link between the physical body and the other parts, that is the heart and the soul. That is why we have the conscious and the unconscious minds. These are the two departments that every mind has.

That is the reason why people talk of a man becoming conscious and unconscious. An unconscious person still exists or lives but he may not know what goes on around him. When such a person regains his consciousness, people will rejoice.

This gives room for a reprobate mind. According to the verse quoted above, anyone who fails to retain God in his heart (that is acknowledging God as God.) will have a reprobate mind. When this happens, such a person will be doing things that are not convenient. Things that ought not to be done will be their preoccupation.

Since they fail to acknowledge God, He also abandoned them to do whatever they like.

One thing is that there's no vacuum in nature. So long as He is absent in their lives, they need to look for another occupant(s). This has led to being occupied with themselves. All that they know is themselves. No one else is anywhere. They are their idols. Do you know what? They want others to worship them too.

In some other ways, people with reprobate minds choose to worship the creature rather than the Creator. Because they cannot understand the wonderful works of God, they worship the sun, moon, stars, animals, trees, waters, and so on.

Beloved reader, do you acknowledge God as God? Or do you think you don't need Him? You have no other alternative that can replace Him. Every other "alternative" you can think of is bitterness and darkness.

It is better, and to your advantage, to acknowledge God as God without hypocrisy. Know and cleave to Him and it shall be well with you in the name of Jesus Christ. Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord.
