Joy, Jesus is the Light!
by PamFord Davis

I’m like a kid at Christmas. I still get excited when I hear the first Christmas music and see holiday lights and decorations. Pondering the first Christmas…

Tradition teaches singing by angels to shepherds, scripture doesn’t.  It records the angels praising and saying, not singing.

“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men (Luke 2:13-14 KJV).”

God provided the first Christmas lights; filling the sky with His glory.

“And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid (Luke 2:8-9 KJV).”

Miraculously, the light of a star guided Magi to Jerusalem and on to Bethlehem; the birthplace of the Messiah.

“Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him (Matthew 2:1-2 KJV).”

“…and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.

When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy (Matthew 2:9b-10 KJV).”

Joy, Jesus is the light!

“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life (John 8:12 KJV).”
