When I was wounded, and discouraged, My enemy rushed in to sow Seeds of deception, and confusion; That my God’s truth, I would not know.
His lies blinded my eyes to God’s truth, And like chains, fast bound up my soul. He didn’t stop, but planted more lies; Bit by bit, seeking to gain control.
I saw clearly the faults of others, And was quick to judge and deride. I wondered on, thinking I was right; Nursing my wounds and wrongs; but in pride.
When I didn’t understand God’s ways, My foe planted his lies and doubt. Then I started to question within, And life seemed to flounder about.
I hardened my heart time and again, When a friend would speak God’s truth to me. Surely I was right, and they were wrong! And I turned from them, so stubbornly.
But one day, as I plodded along, And pondered, discouraged and worn, God spoke His truth so quiet, but clear, And it pierced my heart like a thorn.
I saw a lie that I had believed; From which God’s truth now set me free. Then bit by bit, in kindness and love, God opened my eyes to clearly see.
One by one, He showed me Satan’s lies, That had bound me so fast in sin. And oh, the glorious freedom I found As I chose to believe, and trust Him!
I turned my eyes upon my Jesus, And feasted much on His true word; I asked Him to lead me in His ways,, And His sweet, still, small voice, I heard.
As I learn to abide in my God, He speaks His truth, which makes me free From sin’s power, and Satan’s lies; For my Jesus lives within me!
