Independence Day, We are Free
by PamFord Davis

Circle the date and make your plans; July 4th will be a day of celebration, contemplation and dedication. Americans take a backward glance each year in remembrance and pride; ahead in humility and hope.

Flags will line Main Street in rural villages, town squares, and store fronts. Patriots will raise the grand old flag in front of their homes and veterans will march in parades. We’ll place our right hands upon our hearts, stand at attention and pledge our allegiance to the United States of America.

There will be so much to see in 4th of July celebrations. Don’t miss sights of the stars and stripes; soldiers with pressed creases, polished shoes and bright brass buttons. Behold dazzling fireworks and listen to the pop, bang and boom of Johnny's firecrackers. Gaze at breathtaking fireworks displays at the close of day.

Religious freedom is not taken for granted by Christians. We celebrate Independence Day and give thanks to our Creator. We are forever grateful to Him for our citizenship in one nation under God. We are free.

“So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, If you continue in My word, then you are truly My disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’ They answered Him, ‘We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been enslaved to anyone; how is it that You say, ‘You will become free’?’

Jesus answered them, ‘Truly, truly I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin. Now the slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever.  So if the Son sets you free, you really will be free (John 8:31-36 NASB).”
