Roots And Fruits (Part 5)
by Olawale Ogunsola The purpose of nursing and nurturing a fruit tree is to reap its fruits not only sparingly but bountifully. This is the only condition that will make its owner happy and rejoice over the tree. Otherwise, it will paralyze the expected celebrations of its planter and put its existence at risk. A man who plants a fig tree expects sweet and good fruits (Judges 9:12). As well a man who plants a vine tree expects fruits that will produce wine to cheer him, his household and friends as well as neighbors(Judges 9:13). That is why the Lord spoke a parable unto His disciples about the failure and judgment of a failed tree. Note that the owner of the vineyard was disappointed by the failure of the fig tree. He was not satisfied at all. His expectations failed. What was his judgment Death and destruction were passed on to the unproductive tree. The fellow engaged in taking care of it was instructed to cut it down for the failure to produce the real results, that is bear fruits. The fig tree has been taken care of properly without any good results. The dresser of the vineyard did not disagree with the complaint of the owner. He knew well that it was truly unfruitful. However, he has an appeal to make on behalf of the figure, Please, pay attention to the end of an unfruitful tree here, cut it down". The vineyard dresser appealed to the owner to spare the tree for a year so that he may dig around it for moisture and other soil nutrient (s) and fertilize it so that the roots of the tree may receive the necessary things to make the tree fruitful. The dresser of the vineyard thought it right that if the roots were taken care of better, there would be an improvement on the tree and it would bring forth the needed fruits. He surrendered to the fact that if it remained a source of disappointment, it could go for it. He may have sensed something wrong with the roots that needed to be rectified. The roots have a direct effect on a tree and its ability to produce fruits. Beloved, do you know that a man is compared with a tree? He needs to take roots downward to produce fruits upwards. Are you well-rooted in Jesus Christ and His words? Has He fertilized you(your life) to an extent that you should be productive? Do you produce the required fruits for Him? The gift(s) He has given you is to bring forth fruits (profits, 1 Corinthians 12:7). If you are bringing fruits to the Lord, continue to be more fruitful. If you are yet to start, begin today. May you not be cut down in the name of Jesus Christ. Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord.
