Send Needed Rain
by PamFord Davis

People keep a close watch on the weather; we all talk about weather in casual conversations. Most of us are rarely contented with the weather we’re currently experiencing. Some blame storms, floods and drought on the imagined Mother Nature. Instead, all should acknowledge the Creator God. He alone is in control. Farmers of faith trust Him to send needed rain.

Could He be testing our patience and faith?

Are we willing to wait for more favorable weather conditions? Times of drought are serious business. We once lived in South Texas during a long dry spell. I couldn’t control my excitement the day that God sent rain! I phoned my husband at his job to share the good news. In contrast, I was shocked to learn how close we had come to disastrous flooding when living alongside of a Mississippi River Levee.

Elijah not only talked about the weather. With faith, he partnered with God in changing it.

“Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit (James 5:17-18 ESV).”

Let us pray…
