One Rib
by PamFord Davis

‘Where’s the beef?’

It’s been 40 years since I heard the successful Wendy’s burgers slogan. Does your diet revolve around meat and potatoes? I’ve been married to Husband Norm (a vegetarian) for nearly 57 years. In contrast, Son Lee is a carnivore; meat makes his world go around. Fire up the grill; it’s time to make spare ribs. Don’t forget the BBQ sauce and plenty of napkins.

God made Adam. He didn’t need an x-ray to locate Adam’s rib cage.

Surely Adam could spare one rib…

“But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said,

‘This at last is bone of my bones
    and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called Woman,
    because she was taken out of Man.’

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh (Genesis 2:20b-24 ESV),”

Where’s the honeymoon?
