To Deliver Me
by PamFord Davis

“And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil (Luke 11:4 KJV).”

‘Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil.’

Images of Tarzan’s chimp Cheeta flash across my mind. The evil inflicted upon the Hebrews in Egypt was no monkey business. Pharaoh used them as slaves and forced them to gather straw for their making of bricks. The work was grueling and Pharaoh’s taskmasters were cruel and demanding.

In desperation, the Hebrews cried out to their merciful God.

The Lord is merciful; He is compassionate. He saw the evil inflicted upon His chosen people in Egypt. God knew their plight. Their prayerful wails for help were heard and acted upon by the Great I Am.

In love and mercy, he appointed Moses as deliverer.

"Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to Me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them. Come now; therefore, I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt (Exodus 3:9-10 KJV).

Evil once held me captive; in bondage to sin. The Father sent His Son Jesus to deliver me.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved (John 3:16-17 KJV).”
