GOD'S VOICE IN THE THUNDER
by Lupie Riley
Freelance writer Lupie Riley Thought: Not long ago the residents in my apartment complex were awakened to a loud explosion that came out of nowhere. My thoughts ran to World War IIl. Looking out from my balcony there were no visible flames or commotion on the ground. I had once read in my daily devotions that God’s voice was in the thunder. This is what I found: Job 37:1-5 “My heart trembles at this. Listen, Listen to the thunder of His voice. It rolls across the heavens and His lightning flashes out in every direction. Afterwards, comes the roaring of the thunder—the tremendous voice of his majesty. His voice is glorious in the thunder. We cannot comprehend the greatness of His power. Job 37:23 “We cannot imagine the power of the almighty and yet He is so just and merciful that he does not destroy us. I recommend reading all of Job 37. Jer. 10:12,13 “But our God formed the Earth by His power and wisdom, and by his intelligence he hung the stars in space and stretched out the heavens. It is his voice that echoes in the thunder of the storm clouds. He causes mist to rise upon the earth, he sends the lightning and brings the rain, and from His treasuries he brings the wind.
We are living in a toxic world right now, with wars and rumors of war’s, violence and murder’s just like the days of Noah before the flood. God’s judgments will be poured out on a world that is defiant and rebellious soon and it’s not going to be a pleasant time for those left behind. Now is the time to get right with God. How do we do that? I call it the three C’s. Conviction, confession and commitment. CONVICTION: Acknowledge you are a sinner. Sin came through the rebellion of Adam, and it separates us from a Holy God. CONFESSION: Confessing your sins in repentance and asking Jesus to come into your life. He took all those sins upon Himself and paid the price with his own life on a cross. No one can come to God except through Christ. He is the way, the truth and the life. COMMITMENT: Allowing Jesus to make the changes and fall into the plan he had for you from your beginning. Jer. 29:11” For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Prayer: Father God, thank you for revealing your majesty and power in the thunder. I commit myself to following you the rest of my life. Amen Verse: Rom. 3:23” Yes, all have sinned, all fall short of God’s glorious ideal; yet now God declares us “not guilty” of offending him if we trust in Jesus Christ, who in His kindness, freely takes away our sins.”
