Some Things I've Learned About Prayer
by Tonja Taylor

These are some of the things I've learned about prayer, in my prayer class at Bible college:

(1) As I read in a book called Honor the Blood, when we apply the Blood of Jesus to a situation, it is not to be as a ritual, but “a living experience” that will always bring deliverance. Hallelujah!

It is good to plead the Blood of Jesus over ourselves and our loved ones, over situations and processes, even things we own, etc., daily, and any other way the LORD leads.

(2) We need the precious Holy Spirit helping us every moment of our lives! He is the One Who gives us life; Who helps us learn to pray, and Who helps us to do so. Hallelujah!

As I am learning more and more, “prayer” involves so much more than just the repetition of certain Scriptures and other words; it is to be the flow of the all-knowing, creative, unlimited but unchanging Holy Spirit.

Hallelujah!

One of my professors, a pastor, stated that the prayer director at our church taught on praying in the Holy Spirit for a year—and no two teachings were the same!

That follows the fact that, in the Word, Jesus’s miracles differed from one another, for He sees each person as unique, and ministers to the unique needs and desires of each one.

How great is our loving Father God!

(3) Each prayer is unique, when we are submitted to the Holy Spirit, and that’s the way I want it, for the Father, the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Jesus knows exactly what we should pray, when, and how. I used to marvel at things the LORD would bring to mind, but no more—like praying for a certain city or state or country or person that my mind was not thinking about at all, but which the LORD needed someone to intercede for at the moment.

Hallelujah! How great and awesome and wonderful and loving is our dear God, Who is holy and Who chooses to allow us to partner with Him, to get His will done in the earth!

(4) He really does need us—which is something it took me decades to really believe.

(5) I agree that, as Dr. Billye Brim (and others) stated, “Only an awakening to God will save America”—not complaining (which only wastes time, words, and energy!), not a different President, nor anyone nor anything else. Hallelujah, an awakening is happening, because the LORD is faithfully and graciously and mercifully answering the prayers of us His people!

Yes, we must exercise our authority as those welcome at the Throne of Grace (Heb. 4:16), and continue to pray for all men, and all leaders, and all things as God leads, by His help.

(6) I agree that knowing that we are the Righteousness of God in Christ Jesus (2 Cor. 5:21) by our faith (that God gave us!) in the Blood of Christ Jesus (that He gave us!) helps us seek what God wants us to pray, and that being led every time we pray by the Spirit, is the only truly correct way to pray as effectively as possible.

(7) Whether this is praying in various dimensions of the Holy Spirit, or decreeing the Word of God or other declarations as led by the LORD, the Spirit of Truth lives in us as the Spirit of Christ Jesus, and leads us always into all Truth (John 16:13)!

For years, He has had me praying for the USA and our government—from the highest office(s) to the lowest, for they are all connected. This includes worshiping intercession, which I highly enjoy, and experience as intense times with Him of standing in the gap for our country and its leadership—even as my mind is telling me that “It’s stupid to wave a flag over the glass globe of the world in your hand. Do you think that’s really accomplishing anything?”

But as the LORD leads (not every day, not every week, although I'm sure He'd direct me every time I take time to seek Him to pray!), I keep going, in high praise and thanksgiving to the LORD Most High, for as Psalm 24:1 states, THE EARTH IS THE LORD’S AND THE FULLNESS THEREOF, AND ALL THE PEOPLES THEREIN!!! Hallelujah!

(8) By faith (which He gives me!), I know that, somehow, He is using the "foolishness" of my actions to accomplish His will and "confound the 'wise'" (I Cor. 1:27). Halellujah!

So, as wise ministers have stated,“Prayer (not complaining!) changes things." Let's ask the LORD what He wants to pray, and open our mouths, and let Him fill them (Psalm 81:10), to get His wonderful will done on this planet!
