(I found these in my files from Bible college, when we had a class on discovering our Life Path/The Plan of God for us.  Focusing on God in praise and prayer a few minutes, then doing self-focus exercises like these can surprise your students (as they did me!), and help draw out deeper, God-breathed dreams and desires to help reveal His Plan for us!)

The professor instructed us to elaborate on who and how we are in each of these categories, starting our writing(s) with, "I am...": (1)a color; (2) an item; (3)an animal; (4)a tree; (5)a musical instrument; (6)a season; (7) which Biblical figure we are like on our worst day; and (8) which Biblical figure we are like on our best day.

It was a very rewarding experience, even as I just reread the notes before writing this!

By the way, the professor told us to keep these notes for ourselves (unless we chose to share with the class, which I did not, although many did), and reread them.  I've kept all my notes (almost) from Bible college, and I had put these in the folder with my music.  (I feel a Spirit Song coming on--maybe more than one!)

Here, I share with you what I believe the Holy Spirit helped me write.  You can do this exercise for yourself (for it can encourage and delight you, and perhaps even amaze you; all of these would be the Holy Spirit building up your soul!), and/or have your child(ren) and/or students do these exercises. They are a refreshing exercises to stimulate the right brain, and bring up the creative flow.

Again, these are only examples, although you and/or your students may choose the same things. Each of us has a unique journey!

Here are some of the things I penned, as examples to get you/your student(s) started:

(1) I am

the blue of the sky

on a pre-spring day

crisp and fresh

and cloudless;

the blue of a 

brand-new baby's eyes

with a gaze

so clear and wise

the blue of the flow

of a river on high

swift and clean

and giving new life

          and

I am

fuschia

the hue of exuberant joy

of life, like petunias

pansies, and tulips, perhaps

of flags intent on worship

of The King

a delightful mix

of royal purple and regal blue

(2) I am

a treasure chest, 

a chest of hope

full of good things--

jewels and words

and fond memories

beautiful

inside and out

well-kept and honored

with surprising delights

(3) I am

a white horse

majestic and strong

focused

and full of power

overcoming in war

and running free

gliding on light waves

hitting the mark

(4)  I am

a red oak

mighty and full

a shade 

and a rest

a haven and home

a bearer of fruit

with deepening roots

by the Water of Life

(waving my leaves

to the LORD)

(5) I am

a pearl-white piano;

an electric baby grand

with many beats

and background

a melange of melodies

sustained, playing

love songs to The King

estatic boogies,

ethereal "Edelweiss"

glissandos of "How Great Thou Art"

(6) I am

autumn

when the harsh heat

of summer is gone; 

and the fresh, cool breath

of the new season arrives

rest from the old

the launching into the joy

of beginnings and holidays

(7) I am

on my worst day

like the "sons of thunder"

wanting to call down fire

on those who strike my flesh

but superseding the wrong

in the Name of Christ,

Jesus the Just,

the Prince of Peace

(8) I am

on my best day

much like David

not afraid to fight for Right

but seeking God's way first

and above all

worshiping Him my Victory

I am all these and more

flowing daily in His Way

by His help and Grace--

from glory to glory to glory

in the Lord Yahweh
