A Sure Secret Of Greatness

by Olawale Ogunsola
5/10/2016 / Leadership

Greatness is what many people crave. The sad part of this is that those who want to be great are ignorant of the secret associated with achieving it. Many are of the wrong notion that "Greatness is a product of luck or chance." No! Greatness is not a game of chance.

A careful examination of great people's lives reveals that they deserve it, including those who were born great and those who have Greatness bestowed on them. They possess certain attributes that qualify them for Greatness.

Now let us limit our discussion to those who want to attain Greatness. Then, what is the sure secret?

The secret was revealed by the only One who possesses all secrets, the only begotten Son of God, who became the Son of man so the sons of man may become the sons of God, that is, Jesus Christ. He said,
"...whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant.
And whoever desire to be first among you, let him be your slave" Matthew 20:26.
This clearly shows that SERVICE is the sure secret behind attaining Greatness. It is interesting that Jesus Christ directed His disciples' attention to Himself as an example to buttress His point when He said,
"just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give His life a ransom for many." Matthew 20:28.

Do you know anyone who is greater than Jesus Christ or who is as great as He is? Surely, there is no one! He served like no one ever did nor can do.

Apostle Peter captures the picture right when he said,
"God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power,
who went about doing good..." Acts 10:38.
Can anyone then be wrong to say Jesus went about "serving people"? No wonder then that He was (and still is) the greatest man.

Do you intend to be great for the glory of the Lord? Serve others!

In some countries of the world, leadership or Greatness, especially politically, is seen as the "survival of the fittest" or a thing to be acquired by force. Whereas people want those who will serve them. Those in whom they have trust ;so they vote for them. They want leaders who will do them good. Great people love their people and meet their needs as at when due or as soon as possible.

Rehoboam will never forget his experience of rejection by those he was to rule, people of Israel. He became king after his father, king Solomon. People of Israel approached their new ruler with a demand,,
"...lighten the burdensome service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put on us,, and we will serve you." 1 Kings 12:4-6.

The experienced old men who were pillars of King Solomon's government advised him, "If you will be a servant to these people today,
and serve them, and speak good words to them, then, they will be your servants forever." verse 7.

He failed to heed the counsel of those experienced people but followed that of young men to his detriment because he lost control of ten out of twelve tribes to Jeroboam. Although what happened proceeded from God.

Can you clearly see that the counsel of the elders of Israel is in line with the instructions given by Jesus to His disciples? Believe it, it will always work anywhere and anytime. It is a time tested secret that never fails.

Be prepared to serve others if you want to be great in and for the Lord!

King David, who was the grandfather of King Rehoboam was a man after the heart of God because he was a man of great service to people of God. He did only what was right in the eyes of the Lord except in the matter of Uriah's wife.
Apostle Paul has this to say about David,
"For David, after he had SERVED his own generation by the will of God fell asleep..." Acts 13:36

What will people say about you? Begin to lay the foundation for your greatness today by serving your generation, so that those who live after you have fallen asleep will have something good to remember about you.
Stay blessed and rapturable because the Lord is coming soon.
