Dad and Young Son Discuss God's Vast Wisdom and Knowledge

James and Josh, his five-year-old son, were discussing God’s vast wisdom and knowledge.

“How wise is God, dad?” an inquisitive Josh asked.

James hadn’t anticipated this type of question from his son. “I really don’t know how to answer that question,” he slowly replied.

“God knows more than everyone in the world put together. And He’s wiser than all of them put together, too.”

“Wow!” Josh exclaimed excitedly. “I knew God was smart, but I didn’t know he was that smart. How did God get to be so smart? Did He read a lot of books?”

“No, Josh. God has always existed, so He has always been all-knowing and all-wise. He created man in His image. Over the years, men and women began writing books about many different things, but God knew everything that was in every book before the writers even wrote them. God even allowed some people to write books that were against Him.”

“Why did God allow that to happen?”

“Well, Josh, God created man with what is called free will. All of us can make our own decisions in life about the things that affect us and the things we do.”

James quoted the Scripture in Matthew 10:29-31, where Jesus said, “Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.”

James told his son he had read that there are thousands of species of birds in the world. “I’ve also read that hundreds of species have recently become extinct,” James said.

“So people are more important than birds to God?” Josh asked.

“That’s right, son. God knows everything about the birds, as well as us humans. We’re more important because we’re created in God’s image, and God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to die on the Cross to save us from sin.”

And He didn’t do that for the birds, right dad?” grinned Josh. “He didn’t do that for the birds!”

“No, Josh, but He does provide their food for them, just like He provides our food. We plant and grow our food or buy it at the grocery store. The Lord knows what we eat and how the food gets to us. He provides the worms and insects for the birds to eat, and He even knows how many worms each bird eats every day.”

“I’m glad I’m not God,” Josh chuckled. “I like math, and I like to count, but counting every worm for every bird in the world would make me tired very fast! I would have no time left to play!”
