Thirsty: Water is Precious
by Tonja Taylor
2/29/2020 / Salvation
Water is more precious than gold or anything else. You can have all the gold and money in the world, but if you don't have water every day, you will die.
I was reminded of that one day years ago, when I came home with my five-year-old daughter and I came home and I turned on the faucet to wash my hands.
Nothing!
There was no water running through the pipes—and I knew I’d paid the bill.
Suddenly, my hands felt full of germs. Even worse, I felt like I needed lots of water, now.
When would I get some water? Maybe I’d have to run down the street and buy a bottle, I thought.
Suddenly, I also had to use the bathroom. But I realized I couldn’t flush!
I called the water company and the clerk said she had “no idea” when the water would be on, because a main line was broken.
I empathized, in my spoiled Western way, with those in other countries who had no water. In fact, who had no water unless they often walked miles every day for it—and then had no guarantee it would be fit to drink. Sometimes they drank it anyway, even with germs that caused diseases, because every human body must have water to survive.
I remembered my husband telling me that a missionary to the Phillippines said they had trouble convincing the natives that the water treatment devices were needed. Just because they could not see the contaminants in the water did not mean they weren’t there.
I think the natives were gradually getting used to the taste of truly clean water, once the missionaries started filtering it. And they surely were getting used to being more healthy!
Human bodies must have water. The best water, of course, is clean water that truly nourishes the body.
But many still did not have running water from a tap like I did!
I repented to the LORD for taking so much for granted. I resolved to give more to the Phillipine mission which bought and placed those water treatment devices on many of the 900 or so islands.
I got some gelatinous germkiller hand sanitizer out of the car, and still did not feel clean after using it.
My daughter wanted some lettuce but I realized I hadn’t washed it. Then I realized I had a little water left over from when I had so casually filled my glass that morning, and I drank a bit, then used the rest to wash her lettuce.
And within a few minutes, the water was back. We had clean, good-tasting, running water once again. I appreciated it more than ever!
I have also thought many times that, just like our bodies must have physical water every day to stay healthy, our spirits must have the Living Water of the Spirit of God, Jesus Christ, to become and stay healthy every day!
In John 4, Jesus told the Samaritan woman who came to the well that He needed a drink of water. She was surprised that He asked, and He told her that He could give her water so she would never thirst again. She possibly thought He was deluded and bragging.
But He answered her and said, 13 Jesus answered, “If you drink from Jacob’s well you’ll be thirsty again and again, 14 but if anyone drinks the living water I give them, they will never thirst again and will be forever satisfied! For when you drink the water I give you it becomes a gushing fountain of the Holy Spirit, springing up and flooding you with endless life!"
He was speaking of the eternal Life of God, called Zoe (John 10:10) that Jesus died on the cross to pay for our sins (John 3:15-17) and then was resurrected from three days later to give us. For when we receive Christ as Savior and LORD, He Who is the Living Water of Life comes as the Holy Spirit to live in our hearts and eternally refresh and cleanse and nourish us. He is the very Source of true Life!
The woman at the well believed Him and went to tell her whole town, who came to see Jesus and received the Living Water of Salvation themselves!
Jesus Christ Who is Love, Who is the Living Water, loves everyone of every color and race and language. He is no respecter of persons. All who call upon His Name in truth will be saved (Romans 10:13)!
If you would like to receive the Living Water of Jesus Christ right now, choose to believe this truth and pray this out loud: Jesus, I believe You are Who you say You are, and I need You. Please forgive me of all my sins and wrongdoings. Thank You for paying for all my sins when You died on the cross. Thank You for rising again so I can have new life in You. You are the Living Water and I need You to please come into my heart and continually refresh, renew, and cleanse me as the watersprings in my heart. Thank You that You will be with me forever to help me live this wonderful new life. I receive You and thank You. In Your Name, amen!
Now, if you don't already have them, ask the LORD to lead you to a Bible-believing Church and to help you find the right Bible to read. He will! Now that you have received Christ Jesus as Savior and LORD, You are a Son or Daughter of the great God, Jehovah, Creator of Heaven and earth! You now have a Covenant with Jehovah that Jesus paid for with His pure blood!
Now that You have received Christ, there is a great celebration in Heaven, and you have a guardian angel who will help protect you from harm. Now that you have the Living Water of Christ Jesus in you, your spirit will go to be in Paradise (Heaven) to live forever with the LORD Jesus and Jehovah (God) when your body dies!
Hallelujah! You have just made the very best decision of your life!
