COMFORT FOR KRISTY: God's Help For Parents
by linzy bruno
8/15/2020 / Short Stories
"Little Peanut is fast asleep," Kristy said, as she pulled off her mask and turned to look up at her mom.
"Oh that's good," her mom replied. "Wow what great mommy skills you have. You take such good care of your little sister! Well, come on Angel Girl, let's go to that concession stand over there and get you something to eat, it’s two 0’clock already."
Kristy and her mom pushed the baby stroller together, slowly over to the hot dog and hamburger stand, not too far from where they were sitting by the rides.
“I’m so glad we’re here!” Kristy shouted. I loved the merry- go -round, the Tilt-A-Whirl and the kiddie coaster. I think I’ll go on the merry-go-round again after lunch!”
“Yeah, you have really been enjoying the rides this time. I remember last time we were here you were a little bit afraid of some of them,” her mother replied.
“Yeah I know, but I asked God to make me brave and He did!” Kristy shouted with joy.
“Wow, that great Angel Girl. This is really a great amusement park!”
“Carousel Amusement Park is the greatest Amusement Park ever," Kristy exclaimed, as they walked. "And we even get to hang out at the ocean, because it’s right here!
"You know what else makes it so great?” her mom asked
Kristy shook her head.
"They keep it clean and.......well, the thing I really like about it here is that they do such a good job not letting too many people in at one time. That makes it easier to social distance."
"Oh yeah, that way we can take off our masks......at least a little bit." Kristy replied, like she was asking a question.
"Yes......... Ya know, it wasn't always like this. When I was your age, the world wasn't such a crazy place."
"I get a little bit scared sometimes, but you always make me feel so much better when you tell me about Jesus, how He's coming to get us outta here! AND SO SOOOOOON!" Kristy shouted, as she spun around in a circle, and then jumped up and down a few times.
"I'm so glad you love Jesus 'Angel Girl.' And He loves you.....He loves us even more than we can imagine, and He has such a great future in store for us in Heaven and even the new earth; we can't even imagine! Kristy's mom picked up her baby sister and held her close as she began to stretch and squirm.
Her mom was able to stay seated with the baby while Kristy continued to enjoy the rides. She went on all the ones she missed before lunch and again on all the ones she didn’t.
Then her mom continued explaining what it was like back when she was a little kid.
"When I was a kid, we didn't have to wear masks. Everyone just went about doing whatever they wanted, as long as it was not hurting anyone, and everyone minded their own business but were also friendly to one another.
"That must have been nice," Kristy replied. "No masks, wow I wish it was that way now!" She continued.
"Me too Angel, but we know that Jesus is coming to get us...... And we know He is going to keep on keeping us safe until that glorious DAY. We know that we are really just keeping away from people and wearing masks because it's the law, not because we are in any real danger. The whole world is worried about getting sick, but we know we are safe. Even if we did get sick, God would either heal us or take us, so even then, we still do not have to worry about sickness of any kind!"
Kristy imagined herself sick in bed.
"Well at least I wouldn't miss much school since you teach me at home... Hahaha.... I'm not afraid because I know Jesus loves me."
"That's right," her mom replied, as she prepared to change the baby's diaper.
I can help," said Kristy; handing her mom a diaper from mom’s extra-large purse.
Her mom ended up changing all the baby's clothes with Kristy's help.
"Well it's starting to get dark. Let's start heading home," her mom said when they finished. She put the baby back in the stroller and they walked until they arrived at the bus station. Then her mom took her baby sister out of the stroller, kicked it shut with her foot and tucked it under her arm. They stood in line for a few minutes and then boarded the bus.
All the way home, Kristy stared out the window and prayed that everyone in the whole world would love Jesus and be saved by Him when He comes. And the Lord brought her comfort, even more than usual, and she wasn't afraid.
As her mom tucked her into bed that night, she said: "I had a great time with you today, even though we had to wear masks and social distance."
"I know, I get it...... Things were much better when you were a kid like me, but I don't care! I'm glad I'm here now so I get to SEE JESUS with you and Little Peanut and Daddy, and Aunt Carla, and Uncle Pete and little cousin Danny and..........
And she kept naming family members and other loved ones until her mother got up and went over to her door.
"Good night Angel Girl," she said, with a giggle.
"Goodnight Mommy," Kristy replied.
Then Kristy said her bedtime prayers, with her biggest smile ever, and fell asleep.
