Get Rid of the Garments of Shame!

by Tonja Taylor
11/01/2022 / Christian Living

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?--Psalm 43:18-19, AMPC

Not everyone is this way, but the LORD showed me to literally get rid of--sometimes give away, sometimes trash--clothes in which i'd experienced shame or humiliation or something. The physical shedding of these garments has helped me heal emotionally, and it may help you, too!

For instance, when I would put on certain things--some with a spot or something here or there, but even some that were very nice and like new--in which I had experienced some kind of trauma (a very negative emotional and/or mental experience; after decades, I now know what to call it!), I would feel heavy, even unloved somewhat, rejected, or some other disturbing emotion, because of the trauma I had experienced while wearing it.

None of that is God. Not everyone senses things this way, but getting rid of the garments (even underwear that didn't really fit right, and that I was just trying to "make do" with) that took away any peace just don't work for me any more.

The LORD has been very good to me. I have many nice clothes--which is a harvest, a return, from years of sowing nice clothes to others. He is faithful! Of course, I continue to sow nice things, and not just when they make me feel less than stellar!

I'm not suggesting that you to throw out your clothes. That is between you and the LORD. However, if He leads you to do this, as He has led me to do so--even a very fancy blouse that many have admired, but which I suffered trauma to my soul, and which I knew in my spirit that would be expedited in the forgiveness and healing process by getting rid of the physical garment.

I sowed it to a thrift store, and declared that no one who wears it will suffer any trauma I'd experienced in it. (If the healing power of God can go into cloths from the Apostle Paul's body, then negatives could do the same thing. I am certainly not comparing myself to the apostle, but to me, "erring" on the side of praying and proclaiming positively against evil and for the good is a form of covering whomever will choose the garment. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it! LOL!).

The LORD tells us several places in the Word to quit rehearsing past disappointments and forget the former (negative) things, while focusing on the new things He is doing, and He is always creating! Hallelujah!

The glorious truth is that, the moment we received Christ Jesus as our Savior and LORD, the old us--the unrighteous, condemned sinner who was destined for hell!--was reborn by our faith in the Blood of Jesus shed on the cross for us!

Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!--II Corinthians 5:17, AMPC

So, go through your closets and drawers, if you choose, and see if there are any clothes you can share with others; that you can't wear, just don't want--or that make you actually feel bad when you wear them. You could give them to a thrift store, where others could buy them at a very economical price, and where the money would be used to help needy people.

Just an idea for you.

Or you could have a garage sale, make some money, and buy new clothes!

Remember, that no matter how we feel nor what we wear, the Blood of Jesus has given us the Robe of Righteousness; the Royal, holy Covering that makes us acceptable to Jehovah the Divine--the God of Heaven and earth!

Hallelujah!

Truly, from the moment we receive Christ Jesus, the old is gone, and the new is here! Glory Hallelujah!

I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul will exult in my God; for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.--Isaiah 61:10,  AMPC
