Where do you find your security? Is it in a steady job, an IRA, stocks and bonds, or money stuffed under your mattress? Today people realize financial security is deceitful!
Many parents and grandparents know very well, how crucial a sense of security is to a child. From newborn age till the child leaves the nest they need to feel they are loved, secure, and safe.
When working in childcare I clearly saw both secure children and the very insecure. Some babies wanted to be held constantly and became an extension of my hip! Others were content to occupy themselves.
At nap time the care givers helped the babies to snuggle down for rest with a pacifier, favorite toy, or the "security blanket." If the parents forgot to send them the children were restless, unhappy and at times unable to sleep. They became confused, believing we were hiding it from them!
Our 2nd grandchild became much attached to his "blanky." It became thread bare as a result of lavish love! The 3rd grandson got security and comfort from his pacifier, "pap." His parents removed it at age 3; and it really caused problems for a while.
We all find security in things and people; but things wear out, get broken or lost. People let us down. They are meant to be a very special part of our lives, giving encouragement, support and love. We set ourselves up for a fall if we expect them to give us security.
What will happen if our "security blanket" is removed? "For behold, the Lord God of hosts is going to remove from Jerusalem and Judah both supply and support (security) the whole supply of bread and the whole supply of water (Isaiah 3:1 NAS)."
His wayward children were being disciplined. They might now see how much they really needed His constant care and provision. He alone gives eternal security! "and I give eternal life to them, and they shall never perish; and no one shall snatch them out of my hand,
(John 10:28 NAS)."
At bed time we can all relax and fall asleep with our "security blanket." We are covered with prayer and God's presence!
