ILLITERACY
by DANIEL OMAGWU
8/22/2009 / Self Help

Illiteracy has been looked at as a social stigma. Even without given consideration to the fact that an individual may not be responsible for been an illiterate.
Well this can be in part attributed to the fact that Education is held with a very high esteem. Education, very scarce then but people value it. Very few can afford it and so many run from it. "May be because scarcity increases value"
In this present time where Education is so common with schools scattered every where, education has now become a do or die thing
People has so much seen what it means to be an illiterate: they want to cure the diseases called illiteracy so much that they now want to be educated or get academic qualifications either by crook or by hook but fail to know that there is a more deadly disease that can not only kill human being but his purpose, vision and even a nation. IGNAORANCE.
May be our inability to differentiate between illiteracy and ignorance has made us to take illiteracy to a high level of social stigmatization.

What is ILLITERACY? And what is IGNORANCE?
Illiteracy is the absent of just academic qualifications and the basic educational tools: Reading and Writing.
Ignorance: is the absent of knowledge, it is what you don't know that you don't want to know or that you ignore. It is your rejection of light because knowledge is light.
So you can now see that ignorance has nothing to do with academic attainment. You may be an illiterate and yet shake the world if you are not ignorant.
You can be a Graduate, a Professor or a Doctor yet still an ignorant.
An illiterate can transact business, can rule the world but an ignorant cannot.
Let's take Africa for example: before the coming of western colonization there has been normal activities, they were kings, business men and skillful men who rule, ply their trades and transact their business yet can't read and write.
That you are a graduate does not mean you are free from ignorance you have just cured yourself from mere fever of illiteracy. The Bible says my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge not lack of education.
That you have a Degree is not an achievement, it is just a tool. Tell me what you know in a process of time and I will tell you your achievement
Knowledge is hidden every where for everybody you may not have the opportunity to go to school but you have the opportunity to get knowledge. Ask yourself what do I know?.
Don't go to school to cure illiteracy alone but go to cure ignorance
Know that a Graduate who don't know any thing is as good as a primary one student why? Both can read and write.
Knowledge talks about the skills, the things you know how to do, and the things you have in your head that is working for you.
The world is moving, the future is coming with speed and everybody is finding his or her place in it. But I want to say that the world has no respect for ignorant people.
Is what you know that makes the difference, time is gone and perilous time is coming but the people that know their God shall stand.
