I Get No Respect!
by Pam Ford Davis
11/03/2009 / Devotionals

The late Rodney Dangerfield made his way to success through a classic complaint, "I get no respect!" The comedian found an issue that most could easily identify with. We all want to be respected. The question is: are we willing to give it? Trust and respect are earned and we measure it out very carefully. I like the TV sitcoms from the 1950's. Young and old alike showed respect to others both in their attitudes and actions.

Do we respect our heavenly Father; or don't we believe He can be trusted? If He asked you for His attention would you answer "Yes, Sir,".or "Yeah, what ever." He deserves our respect and honor. The problem of lack of respect is one He knows very well. "A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If then I am the Father, where is My honor? And if I am a Master, where is My reverence? Says the Lord of hosts to you priests who despise My name. Yet you say, In what way have we despised Your name (Malachi 1:6 NKJ)." His answer made it clear they gave Him second best, showing no true respect. Rodney Dangerfield drew crowds and applause when he failed to get respect. God asks for our faithfulness; and He deserves respect!

I am a wife of over 40 years, mother and proud granny. I was born in N.Y. State, currently reside in central AL. With a past career in Radio announcing our family lived across the nation, later worked in the child care ministry. Now, I am living the dream of writing. All things are possible!
