Amy closed her Bible and buried her face in the palm of her hands. As she sat at the kitchen table pondering what to do next, she heard the cry of her six-month-old baby from another room. The responsibilities of caring for little Anna further fueled her discouraging thoughts. For some time now, Amy felt overwhelmed by motherhood and trapped in a merciless marriage with no way out.
Where is God in my darkest hour, she wondered. Why do I feel all alone? Before rising from her chair to check on Anna, Amy stared at the book that had brought her comfort in the past. Then, as if on cue, the Holy Spirit reminded her of a verse she just read:
"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." (Isaiah 41:10 NIV).
Amy chuckled and thanked God for His instant-messenger service.
"You never cease to amaze me, Father," she said, and rose with greater confidence to care for Anna and her husband whom she loved so much.
Whenever we feel alone or abandoned in our struggles, God is faithful to remind us of His promises. All we need to do is replace our feelings with faith, and take Him at His word.
