We can take trouble in small doses. When trials are extended through weeks, months and years we become discouraged. People cringe behind locked doors. Crime fills neighborhoods, once known as quiet and safe. Nations engulfed in war silently question how long they must endure. Evening newscasts no longer shock us.
The Lord our God patiently listens to our complaints. "Our Lord, how long must I beg for your help before you listen? How long before you save us from all this violence? Why do you make me watch such terrible injustice? Why do you allow violence, lawlessness, crime and cruelty to spread everywhere (Habakkuk 1:2-3 CEV)?" The prophet continued to pour out his heart to God. The enemy continued to oppress his people. He stood firm in His faith. "But I will patiently wait, someday those vicious enemies will be struck by disaster (Habakkuk 3:16b CEV)." God rewards obedience. In justice He brings judgment upon evil.
