Thy Son Liveth

'So Jesus came again into Cana........And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum. John 4: 46 - 50

Jesus came to Cana in Galilee, having traveled night and day,
From Judea, over hills and plains and dusty mountain roads.
And among those who were waiting was a certain nobleman,
An officer in Herod's service, one of authority and importance,
From Capernaum, he traveled twenty long miles on foot, horse and chariot,
To meet Jesus and to tell Him about his bedridden son.
For he is with a terrible sickness and needs Jesus' healing touch,
Because he is sinking fast with death written all over him.

Meeting Jesus, the officer addressed Him, a respectable Sir,
Even though he had the legal authority, over Jesus and his fellow countrymen.
Prayed that Jesus will come, to heal, to touch, and cure his son.
But Jesus simply said, your son is healed and the clock struck seven.
The officer fumbled, never expecting that Jesus would not come,
To give a sign and touch the boy, but never for a second did he hesitate.
Turning back with a smile on his face, a deep peace descended over him,
For the officer had faith, deep faith; Faith that brought him first to Jesus.

Turning back, he went his way and met his servants midway,
Joy written all over their faces they shouted, your son Liveth,
Completely cured, Fever gone, the same hour Jesus spoke,
What more can a father ask, falling on his knees, he praised God,
Twenty miles the officer traveled, but he was asked to go home alone,
Twenty miles he had hoped for a sign, but was given nothing to take,
Twenty miles he had strong faith, for faith is a gift that grows as we use it,
We need to believe, that Jesus can do what He says.
