Commitment

Commitment

Psalms 37:5 Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

What is commitment? The dictionary says that commitment is to pledge or assign to some particular course or use.

When we make a commitment to one another it is we are pledging to each other that we are going to stick with them no matter where the road may lead. It doesn't even matter if the road is rough or smooth we promise to stick with it. The problem nowadays is that when the road starts getting rough then we jump ship and start going a different road. We forget about the promise that we made to each other and go to doing just what we want no matter what it costs. When we find some one who is willing to stick with the commitment that he made it is a rare person. It is so rare that most people will shun the person thinking that they are weird.

What is it like when we make a commitment to Christ? We walk with him very purposely and all dedicated to him and doing everything he wants done as long as the road is smooth. But when the trials come what happens? We look to the Lord for the answer but when he doesn't show up immediately or the trial gets worse we look around and decide that the Lord doesn't care about us or doesn't need us any more so he left us out here to handle things by ourselves. We tend to forget that he said that he would never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5b). We forget that he said we must trust in him. When you trust someone you believe that what they say is true and that no matter where they take you that everything will be alright. So what happens with our trusting in the Lord? We forget that no matter what we go through everything is going to be alright. We forget that he is our big brother; when we give our lives to him we become adopted by God and become the children of God, joint heirs with Jesus Christ. God is not out to make us fall or to see what we are willing to put up with before we turn our backs on him. He is putting us through the trials to help us to grow and learn to depend on him. He is looking for a true commitment to him. In the true commitment we go through everything without looking for a way out. We stand with him no matter what.

May we examine ourselves and learn to stand with Christ in a true commitment to him. May we quit looking for a way out where we can blame him and therefore be blame free ourselves. May we always look to him no matter what the road is like and no matter what we have to go through. May we always remember that we leave him he doesn't leave us. He made us a promise never to leave us or forsake us and he keeps his word even though we don't. Let's stand in our commitment to one another and to God let's keep our word for a change.

How committed are you? George Barna took a survey of the average Christians in the US. I am going to let you in on a few of the results and I want you to compare your self truthfully. I don't care what your answer is as long as you are truthful with yourself. What ever the answer is I pray that you are trying or will try to do better.
1. The average Christian in the US prays 2 minutes a week.
2. The average preacher in the US prays 5 minutes a week.
3. The average Christian meal time prayer has become a ritual, meaning that they do it with out thinking about it. It is just something they have to do.

How long has it been since you prayed for a meal and really thought about where it came from. And I don't mean Piggly Wiggly or IGA I am talking about how you were able to provide the meal. And not just your job but how you have been able to do your job. What about how you were able to get the job?

Stop and think about it God has been committed to you, he gave you his best, how committed are you to him?
