Teach Me Tonight

by PamFord Davis
4/15/2010 / Devotionals

Are you teachable? Is there a yearning to learn valuable lessons? Those who cease to learn soon lose much more than brain cells leading to dementia. They lose the excitement and opportunities of broadening their horizons. We are never too old to learn. It may just take a little longer to retain the facts. Researchers have documented the advantages of keeping elderly involved in mind games or puzzles. They are alert and gain satisfaction in completing a challenge.

The disciples of Jesus sat under the Master Teacher. Daily they listened to His teaching, trying to soak it all in. No man ever taught with such authority, and yet he could teach with illustrations a child could understand. They saw demonstrations of His power in prayer to heal and perform miracles. He often drew apart from crowds for times of private prayer. It compelled them to ask for tutoring. "Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples (Luke 11:1 NKJ)."

Jesus took no roll call. He simply began class and gave them a model for prayer. It is commonly termed The Lord's Prayer and quoted around the world. Join His class. We are learned to address God as Our Father, revealing we are children in His growing family. His throne is in the heavens and we are to honor and reverence His name. We desire the fulfillment of His kingdom reign and His perfect will to be done, both here below and in heaven above. The Father tells us to bring our requests for daily needs. Forgiveness of sins is a prayer of confession away. We are to forgive others who hurt us. Prayers are to include deliverance from temptations and the devil behind them. (Luke 11:2-4) Don't wait until tomorrow to enroll in His class. Make this your heart cry, teach me tonight!
