Patience

Patience

Patience is the capacity, habit, or fact of being patient. Patient: bearing pain or trials without complaint. It is also showing self control. It is being steadfast and persevering.

Ecclesiastes 7:8 says: Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.

Let's think about it for a minute. Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof. When you get to the end of something you no longer have to wait for it to be complete. Nor you do have to wait to get it. You have the end result so patience is no longer needed.

I have heard most of my life don't pray for patience because it will only make things get tough. I think that we need to pray for it, because it will make us stronger. I agree that it is not an easy road, but if it is worth having it is worth fighting for. If no one has ever said it let me say itWhat God has is worth fighting for, and patience is the path to get all of what God has.

When we are growing up we get in a hurry to get everything. We are in a hurry to grow up, we are in a hurry to get a car, and we are even in a hurry to go on our first date. But we never stop to think about what we are doing to ourselveswe are missing out on so much of our lives. When we are little we don't have a care in the world, daddy will take care of everything. But we want to grow up so fast that we loose out on growing up and enjoying the things that mom and dad can do for us and teach us. We think that we can do it on our own and we never learn what they went through and end up making the same mistakes that they made. Then we wonder why, and get mad because they didn't tell us. But what it boils down to is that we would not listen, we were in too big of a hurry.

We were in a hurry to get our own car. Our parents offered to let us use their car when we needed to go somewhere, all we had to do is put gas in it. But no, we had to have our own car so now instead of just putting a little gas in the car we now have to pay for repairs, insurance, gas, tires and the other things that go along with having a car. So instead of working part time to pay for gas and being able to enjoy growing up, we now have to work full time and barely have enough to pay for it. When they tried to tell us what it was going to cost again we wouldn't listen.

We had to have our own place. Instead of paying our parents a little to help with the bills, we had to have a place of our own so we didn't have to go by their rules. So now instead of just a little to help out we now have the entire load. There is house insurance, furniture, rent, and don't forget the food and lights. Instead of being able to get to know what the world is all about and what the Lord wants us to do with our lives, we have to work all the time.

We have to have a girlfriend and spend most of our time with her. But we have to work to pay the bills so we can only spend a little time with her. After a while that gets old and you decide to get married so you can spend more time together. Instead of enjoying your time together and getting to know if she is the one that God has for you, you decide to bypass God and do it anyway. You still go to church and pray, but you still don't have enough time together. Before you know it you have a little baby and now she can't work because it would cost more for a baby sitter than what she makes. Besides she wants to be home with the baby and watch it grow up. Guess what you now have to have two jobs to pay the bills. Between the two jobs and the baby there is no time for you and her. That gets under her skin and the trouble starts. She needs you to help her with the baby and you need a little rest. Well we knew it all and again we refused to listen when the older people tried to tell us. Then on top of all of this you now have no time for the Lord, because you are trying so hard to make everything work out. If you would have prayed about it and waited for the Lord's answer everything would have come together smoothly. But no we knew it all and how everything worked so we didn't need the Lord's help.

That is the way we treat the Lord also. He tries to show us the way to make things better for us, but no, we know it all so we are going to do it our way. Sometimes we need to develop a little patience and listen to what God has to say. Grow up a little slower and stop and smell the roses once in a while. God made the plan for this life, he knows what you need to go through and what to bypass. But we have to stop and listen, then do what he wants, not what we think we want. If we will stop and let the Lord lead the way and do what he says then when we get down the road a ways and we look back we will not have any regrets, because we learned how to deal with things and we did everything God's way. Let's take the time God gave us to learn and enjoy life. He wants us to depend on him, try it and see what happens. He might just surprise you.
