Can You Read My Mind?

It is eerie, after being married over forty years, my husband and I at times seem to read each other's mind. We know each other that well, and anticipate comments before they are voiced. It is comical and yet shows deep intimacy fulfilling God's command to become one.


How would you feel if someone you meet for the first time seems to read your thoughts? Most of us would be very uncomfortable, and to be honest find it kind of spooky! Strangers are supposed to know nothing about us except what little we may feel free to share. Casual conversations include safe topics of the weather or the rising cost of gasoline, right?


A Samaritan woman met Jesus by divine appointment. (John 4:1-42) She went to draw water from a well and made the most important contact in her life. Jesus drew her into a conversation and took her by surprise. They spoke of water, places of worship, and failed marriages. They did not discuss the weather.


The woman walked away, but did not drop the subject. "The woman then left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men, Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ (John 4:28-29 NKJ)?" He knew her past, her present and future. He knew her message would be used as a tool to bring others to saving faith. (Verse 42) Jesus knows all. Open your mind and heart for inspection. Hide His word inside and He'll feel right at home.
