Living as a king in 2010

by beatrice ofwona
5/06/2010 / Christian Living

Is it not interesting how many times Christ brought the issue of belief and faith as being prerequisites for a miracle? In the same way, believe the year 2010 to be the year of priests and kings and start having faith that you are one. Let this be the year that your righteousness shall increase, the year that you will have divine settlement, the year that your debts will be cancelled and the year that you will be delivered from captivity and bondage. In order for all these things to start manifesting themselves in your life therefore, you must start behaving in a certain way and become a certain person; a king.

A king has a territory around which he operates; this is his domain in which his kingdom falls. As a Christian, although we are all commissioned to go out to the world and bring in lost souls, we must also go through stages of salvation during which time we feed first on liquids and soft food then later on move on to harder substances; this marks our maturity level. This therefore means that we may want to go to pubs to witness to those still in alcoholic captivity yet fall prey to the vice because we were not ourselves spiritually well prepared. This is why we are advised in 2Corinthians 6:14-16 not to be yoked with none believers because the company we keep may very well determine the direction that our salvation will take. Acts 2:42-47 shows us the importance of being in fellowship with believers is that we may strengthen one another and therefore strengthen the body of Christ. A king does not operate outside the territory inside which he is strong.

A king takes care of people, their needs are uppermost in his mind, he is interested in what is happening to his subjects. We should be interested in those around us especially those that we are mentoring or discipling, that they may have someone to guide them through the walk of salvation.

Know and understand that kings are authoritative when they make decisions; when they speak, they have spoken. If our convictions are biblically based, then we need not argue about them. 2Timothy 2:23-24 asks us not engage in arguments because they only produce quarrels, yet the Lord's servant should only teach with kindness. We should take charge and be in control of situations just as a king would. However, remember that a king usually has an advisor and that's why Proverbs 20:18 asks that we should make plans by seeking advice and if we wage war, to first seek guidance.

Remember that a king operates under the authority of the Almighty God and it is to Him that holy and acceptable sacrifices are rendered. In 1Peter 2:5, we are a spiritual house that is being built into a holy priesthood.

Kings do not cry despite caring deeply about their people and being touched by their plight; they instead make decisions that bring conditions that will bring smiles to the people. A king's sacrifice brings joy to the people.

Finally, kings increase their territories of operation when the time is right. This is done by going righteously to war so that the territory may be enlarged. We too should slowly but surely increase the boundaries of the realms in which we operate. We should extend materially, spiritually and physically. In bringing in more souls to the Lord, we declare war against the enemy but increase the size of the kingdom of God.

It is a new year and it really is time to live like a king henceforth.
