Relating with God
by beatrice ofwona
5/24/2010 / Christian Living

God is our Creator. He created the world ex-nihilo or out of nothing. In the beginning the world was not as we know it, it was void of all that we now marvel at. He is the Master designer of all that the eye can see plus millions of other galaxies that we cannot see. The sun rises in obedience to Him and for eons of years, has risen the same way without collision with another planet or star. Despite all His might, our God is knowable, reachable, approachable and relationable. We can actually relate with Him through Jesus Christ.

God is not just a force of nature as certain confederations contend. It is by our sixth sense of faith that we know of Him because He reveals Himself to us through this. In the book of Psalms 19, we see how God reveals Himself through His creation; the stars and the oceans. Although we marvel at all these, such knowledge is not sufficient to know Him, we must read the Word so that we get to know Him even better. And through it all we realize that we do not relate to God by sight but rather by faith.

Some people find it hard to believe about the existence of God yet when they are told about people who were here on earth before them such as Gandhi, Plato, Socrates, Alexander the Great or Martin Luther, they readily believe stories about them. Strangely however, many things learnt from Science prove the existence of God. The first one is the Law of Cause and Effect which tells us that something must have been caused for it to happen-more like a domino effect. If you therefore go backwards into time looking for causes of things, you will come to the only uncaused cause; and it is God, the ever present.

Secondly is the Law of Entropy which contends that practically everything on earth, including the sun, ultimately wears out and as such, the universe is running down. Global warming has even been blamed on the shrinking size of the sun. If it is the case therefore that nothing is self-sustaining, then everything must have had a beginning from somewhere; the uncaused cause that is God!

Thirdly, the Law of Design in the way that everything works together as if in synchrony; the sun, the moon, the stars and the ocean which only comes so far, point at a mighty being who controls it all. A slight tilting by Him and the Tsunamis are here, the earthquakes unearth the skyscrapers and most recently a volcanic cloud in Iceland that covered the airwaves. A local newspaper headlines screamed, 'One volcano's ash humbles a mobile modern world!' and sums this dust build-up quite well 'it is as if an international conveyor belt has abruptly ground to a halt, all because of a cloud of dust high up in the sky'. This calls to mind that our God, the reigning King, can grind the whole world to a halt if and when He chooses to; He reigns! The world was designed to work as He intended.

Despite His might, we can relate to God in a personal way. Each and every one of us hungers to know Him because He has placed this thirst in us to respond to eternity. Every religion has a genesis of someone looking and hungering for this God, be it Muslim, Buddhist or Hindu but some end up losing it along the way because their focus is soon turned on themselves and their own abilities. The Buddhist may talk of Nirvana but God is not found in the strengths and struggles of Man. He chooses to reveal Himself to us through Jesus Christ but when we lose out on this we become selfish and sinful. In trying to read His Word in the Scriptures, the devil tries to distract us to focus our attention on ourselves and our weaknesses. It is at such times that we procrastinate on this in-filling discipline or fall asleep all together. We then become gossips, unloving, immoral, war-mongers etc because the truth is not found in us.

Let God be your companion, so much so that others will think that you have surely gone mad. King David danced for the Lord until his garments fell off but he was not bothered. You too should not be anxious about anything. In the Lord's Prayer, Christ taught us that we should call God, Our Father. Despite all that He is, this is how we should approach Him, as our Father.

May these words (sermons), from various men and women of God be a blessing to all.
