We must never take our freedoms for granted or they may slip away. As we honor our veterans, memories surface of a sharp crease in trousers and a spit shine on shoes. There are parades and fanfare, a pledge to our flag and singing of patriotic hymns. Families will gather and place flowers on a patriot's grave as a memorial to their selfless service.


Future generations must learn of the sacrifices made by others to defend and protect us. They may ask questions or misunderstand our traditions. "In the future, your children will ask why you do this. They will say, 'What does all this mean?' And you will answer, 'The Lord used his great power to save us from Egypt. We were slaves in that place, but he led us out and brought us here (Exodus 13:14 ERV)." Veterans deserve our highest respect and lasting honor in our memories.
