We must never forget that Jesus, the Son of God, also lived as the Son of Mary. His first words were likely Da-Da and Ma-Ma in His native language. He respected her and loved her as any boy raised in a godly home. Those unsure of his authority referred to him as the Son of Mary.
Jesus came to seek and save the lost. As he fulfilled his mission through his crucifixion, he thought of others. He promised a place in paradise for a thieve hanging at his side, and forgiveness for those who nailed him to the cross. As expected, he felt concern for His mother.
"When Jesus saw his mother standing there beside me, his close friend, he said to her, 'He is your son.' And to me he said, 'She is your mother!' And from then on I took her into my home (John 19:26-27 The Book, Living Bible)." Jesus left behind no great wealth; to his dear friend John, he entrusted the great treasure of his mother, Mary.
