We are in the middle of many years of drought in this part of Colorado. We've lived here 17 years and, actually, the only years I can remember we had significant rain were the years we built family homes (3 as my hubby is a builder) plus maybe one or two others. We can safely say that of the last 12 years 11 have been pretty serious drought.
I was thinking about that and noticing the profusion of wild flowers in our yard that I didn't plant. Yes, on rainy years there are more and they are TALL from the rain but even this year we have about 12 different varieties in orange, red, yellow, blue, periwinkle, white and none of those count the flowering cactus. The following poem is what came out of this time of reflection on the beauty of God's creation.
Mountain Meadow Mysteries
This land of drought
That thirsts for rain
Is filled with wild flowers
Still
Paint brush orange
Daisies ruffled yellow
Purple asters up on the
Hill
Ph how my heart
Overflows with Jesus
Creator of it
All
Wondrous times
Are blessed by You
Walking summer meadows into
Fall
