We have all wanted to light a fire under someone, to get them moving in the right direction. Maybe teenage children were stalling instead of doing homework assignments, or a spouse neglected to do house repairs. If in the place of authority at the job, or as committee chairperson, you become annoyed when individuals ignore duties. How do we spur them on to action?
Paul, as friend, mentor and father in the faith addressed Timothy with words of challenge. "Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear; but of power and of love and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:6-7 NKJ)."
Reading between the lines, I sense the fires of witness were burning out. Paul instructed Timothy to stir up the gift. We can each rekindle embers; sparks of faith become a blazing testimony. God waits for our humble request. Lord, light my fire!
