I have spent a lot of time alone, because my husband's work has taken him out of town. I managed well in his frequent absence; naturally, I wish he stayed at home. Many of my friends are widows and live without their companion of many years. We are more flexible than we realize, and can adapt even though we prefer to have someone at our side.
The disciples were about to experience loneliness like they never knew before. Jesus would return to the Father, and entrusted them with His mission. He gave the Great Commission commands to His followers, and ended it with encouraging words that would anchor them in storms of doubt, discouragement and persecution. "And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age (Matthew 28:20b HCS)." We are safe in His presence always.
