The Ability In Humility

Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

The Give and Receive Principle

Relationship

We are all involved in the management of other people. By enlarge, life itself consists of managing people we come into contact with every day. How well we manage these people will have much to do with the quality of our life. A truth in life is that having to manage people commonly offers the greatest challenges, but successfully doing so offers the greatest rewards. One only need to experience marriage to know this truth! So, what unlocks the potential in all human relations ?

The Key

The answer to this question is found in a principle that we all exercise nearly everyday of our lives. This principle is based in a truth to which our universe operates. It is called the give and receive principle. This is how we play it out nearly everyday:
We give our time and energy in the work place x number of hours a week. We then receive a pay check for the time and energy we've given.
At some point a portion of that pay check is given to a food store from which food is received.
We then give our bodies the food as energy is received to ultimately repeat the whole process.

There are many other examples but none is more predominant then in the world of business and finance. Any successful business man will say, "you must invest money to make money". In other words, we must give money to receive money. The only thing that makes money is money.

The management of people at its greatest levels of success will always involve some method of giving or investing into the life of another. When this truth is performed in a genuine act of understanding, then the greatest potential from this investment is received.

A Societal View Of The Give and Receive Principle And Its Potential

Society has termed individuals who give of themselves to help other people in times of emergencies, while putting themselves in harms way, as heroes. This act of giving will frequently reveal the attitude of the giver as not feeling worthy of receiving the title "hero". This humble attitude generally bares the mark of a genuine act of giving. Not looking to receive any accolades, has for this individual to receive all the more.

A Revealing Experiment

Ask a group of people the following question . What do you look for in a true friend? Most, if not all the responses will be answers reflecting this sentiment , "I look for someone I can trust" or " someone I can feel comfortable with" etc . Rarely will this question be answered in an ideology of what we have to offer someone that establishes a friendship, rather we tend to look for what they have to offer us. John F Kennedy's famous quote epitomized this truth: "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."

See It At The Pump

A man traveling through the desert is out of water and near total exhaustion. As his strength is dissolving toward certain death he sees an oasis on the horizon. Arriving he finds his salvation in a gallon jug of cool clean water sitting by a hand pump. Grapping the jug and raising it to his lips he glimpses a small tattered sign causing him to pause. It reads:

DON'T DRINK THE WATER
PRIME THE PUMP

His decision exemplifies life's challenges. He must decide whether to go for a sure thing or give it up for not only what he needs now, but enough to complete his journey. The risks are in the unknown condition of the pump but the truth is obviously stated on the sign.

Money For Nothin, Chicks For Free

Unfortunately, there is a growing attitude within our society that receiving something without any sacrifice in giving is the way to go. The philosophy that has permeated our culture and promotes receiving something for nothing lays a foundation of destructive ideology. It is a truth that if something cost nothing to receive, than its worth and appreciation to that individual amounts to nothing.

A Servant Leader

Managing resources from another person is most effectively accomplished through acts of giving within the relationship. What is received in return, trust, respect and passing on this concept, is relative to the level of humility exercised within the giving process. The more challenging the act of giving the more humble the giver must be. The evidence of more humility is seen through greater levels of giving. The more the give and receive principle equation is fed and practiced, the greater the return on the investments. In terms of leadership development and the ability to manage resources from individuals ; these principles provide potential that exit known scales of success and are thought not possible.

The only thing greater than practicing the give and receive principle is having a desire to practice the give and receive principle.

I have a desire to see the body of Christ edified. Within the broad spectrum of edification I feel there exists a great need and opportunity for spiritual education at foundational levels. Please contact me about speaking at your church. Dale Linton 410-378-5035 or [email protected]
