Does Sanctification Begin With Only S

by Dale Linton

If the truth in God's word is sanctifing us, what is happening?

John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

The word of God has translated these disciples from being a product "of" the world to being a product "of" the truth. The truth has, in effect, removed them from a worldly governing source, without removing them physically. The following verses support this claim:

John 17:14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

John 17:15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.

John 17:16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

God has provided, within the definition of the word sanctify, much explanation and continuity. The word used in the defining of sanctify is venerate.

Strong's Hebrew and Greek Dictionary

G37 hagiazō
From G40; to make holy, that is, (ceremonially) purify or consecrate; (mentally) to venerate: - hallow, be holy, sanctify.

Webster's Definition:

Venerate
Verb
Be in awe of; "Fear God as your father".

When I first discovered the definition within this Greek word that we translate sanctify, I didn't immediately connect the dots. Without
question, I would never have made any connection by just using the word sanctify. If you have yet to think of where this leads, here it is.

Where does this apply?

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

So, lets see; we are sanctified thru truth which is in( Gods Word) ,part of sanctification means to venerate, venerate means to create a fear of God within us.The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge and the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. This type of knowledge is understanding.

At this point, I wish to invite you to read or reread the article, Understanding The Bridge Between Knowledge And Wisdom.

The way God has put His word together, absolutely blows me away! The mastery with which He has hidden the mysteries in His word, leaves all of us who belong to Him with only one conclusion:

No human being, on they're own, could have ever put this document together we call the Bible!

Finally, knowledge, understanding and wisdom are in operation within us as may be seen thru being sanctified.

Colossians 1:9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled
with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

Colossians 1:10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the
knowledge of God;

I have a desire to see the body of Christ edified. Within the broad spectrum of edification I feel there exists a great need and opportunity for spiritual education at foundational levels. Please contact me about speaking at your church. Dale Linton 410-378-5035 or [email protected]
