This is part of a series of poems which were written years ago before I came to know Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Some were written when I was a professing atheist and an alcoholic. If you have read my pieces since I came to Jesus I think the contrast is evident.

Poems from Another Lifetime Part 5

ALMOST THERE

It flows
Swirling around us
So fast that
We have time
Only to reach out
Or.
It flows
Lazily pulling us
But with strength
So that
Try as we will
We are unable
To grasp
Anyone
In the swimming sea
Of desperately lost people.

WINNERS LOST

We played canasta
The game was not finished-
Score: Me 1928, Him 3765
But then, what really matters?

HIGHWAY TRAVELLED TOGETHER

Where have we gone together?
Over the hills of fear and pain
Through the meadows of joy and discovery
Across the swamps of hatred and anger
Over the bridges of sharing and laughter
Running in the valley of the timeless child,
We have been there too.

And where have we gone together?
Through the darkness of disillusionment and disappointment
Into the light of hope and caring
To the heaven of sleep and dreams
Over the paths of concern and friendship
Under the ocean of hopelessness and despair
Onto the playground of giggles and tickles
Over the highways of star-shine and light

All of those places,
We've been there before
And where is there left for us to go?
To the world of time
In which we will travel each road
Pathway, bridge and highway again and again
As we draw the map of our lives
Together.
