The Other Sin

by Duane Huffstutler

Romans 5:12-13 12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: 13 (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. (KJV)

When we think of sin we think of stealing, adultery, fornication, lying, stealing and the like but what about the sin that we don't classify as sin. So immediately you ask what in the world are you talking about? I am taking about the sin that God sees as sin that we don't even recognize. This is the sin of worry, whining, complaining and crying about the situation that you are in. But you say that is not sin that is just the way of life. Everyone does it and there is nothing wrong with it. Until this week I would agree with you but it was pointed out to me through a radio preacher and the Lord confirmed it to me. Let's take a closer look at these things.
When we enter into a situation and it is not a good situation we usually start out worrying about the situation then follow that with an Oh Me and then go on to tell everyone how bad the situation is. Then as the situation gets worse we really start getting depressed and the whining turns into complaining that we just can't get out of the problem and we get more depressed. Sometimes the Lord will let the situation continue and it continues to get harder, then the tears start and we really get depressed. The more that we cry and complain the harder the situation becomes. And the worse part about it is the Lord has allowed the situation to come on us as a test of our character and we don't even recognize it. He has allowed it to help us to grow and we just belly ache about it and make one more lap around the mountain. How many have actually done something along these lines, maybe not exactly like this but something in the vicinity. I will guarantee you that everyone has done this at one time or another whether they choose to admit it or not. So you now say what is so bad about that it is just natural. It may be natural but it is still a sin, and I am going to show you how it is a sin.
First the Lord places us in the situation to help us see that we cannot handle everything that comes along and that we have to depend on him. From the very beginning when man was created God wanted him to depend on God himself for everything that he needed. But man rebelled and said within himself I can handle anything that comes along. So man became his own little God. So God decided to show man that he was not as good as he thought he was. And with each situation that God put on them they turned away from God farther and farther saying I can handle this thus there was no need for God. Then God gave the 10 commandments. The reason for the 10 commandments was not to make people into Godly people but to show man that by himself he cannot keep the laws of God. It was to show man that he really needed God to help him. So with the law comes God giving us other situations that are to allow us to see that we have to depend on God. But we go through the situation worrying about how God is going to get us through this or even can God get me out of this. We forget that Jesus said that God takes care of the animals and the birds so he is able to take care of you. And we forget that Phil 4:13 states 13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. (KJV) But in each of these we must depend on God. God expects us to do the easy things that he gives us to do but even in the easy things he expects us to lean on him for the direction that we are to go. When we worry and stress including the whining and complaining about the situation we are sinning in that we are telling God that he is not big enough to handle the situation. Telling God that he can't handle the situation is the same as telling God that I am bigger than you are making yourself a god which is the sin of idolatry. Think about it the next time you get into a situation that you worry about, instead of worrying start praising God and rejoicing that God has found you worthy to handle the situation and let go and let God handle it for you. The more you rejoice from the heart the easier the situation will become because God will take over and solve the problem with you. And you will not have to get all depressed and crying about it. Trust God and realize that he holds the entire galaxy in his hands so he is able to deal with any situation. The harder the situation and the more you praise God the sweeter the answer. Trust in God and see the situation dissolve. I will guarantee that it will work if you will do it with all your heart.
